Service Description

An Introduction to ‘Pottery on the Wheel’ @March Meadow Week 1: Throwing. This week we will be ‘throwing’ our basic shapes with clay. We will focus on the importance of centering, and trying to find a balance between too little, and too much pressure with our hands. You are likely to get your pants, shoes, and shirts a little dirty, so bring clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy in. Don’t worry though, clay comes off very easily in a wash/with a damp cloth. Week 2: Trimming. This week we will be trimming the pieces that we made in the previous class. They have been set to dry to a “Leather Hard” state (soft enough to manipulate slightly). This is where we make your final shapes and designs by taking small amounts of clay off with trimming tools on the wheel. Week 3: Glazing. In this final week, we are going to take our bisque fired ceramic pieces and bring them to life with glazes (colours). I will explain how our glazing wall works and how layering glazes gives you many different outcomes. All tools and materials are provided.
